COVID-19 has taken a massive toll globally early this year. Countries are suffering from economic crisis, going into recession. Some businesses and people are suffering more than others due to their activities relying heavily on physical contact (The Straits Times, 2020).
From my own experience, I realised that businesses are now taking advantage on social media marketing platforms to market their brand and products after seeing positive outcomes which includes Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or even YouTube.
Represented as Web 2.0, the key element is that it emphasises on user-generated content where it relies heavily on social media platforms. Anyone is able to create, share, collaborate and engage and build connections with your audience to drive website traffic or increase the sales of your product. This represents how much they are able to reach out to more users rather than in the past where interaction was not merely possible.
Social media is widely used among everyone in this current date, according to (WeAreSocial, 2020), there are more than 4.5 billion people who use the internet and 3.8 billion social media users (including me of course!). This represents a whooping 60% of the world's population!
In this current situation that we are going through with COVID-19, all of us tend to stay indoors, especially during our 2 months lockdown period. No social interactions were allowed physically, hence reaching out for engagement with people was tough. This has led to shops going out of business. Especially for me, I love to physically shop outside but due to the pandemic, I can't (what a bummer!). One of my favourite retail store, The Editor's Market, uses Instagram to engage with their customers throughout the pandemic. Instagram has this feature where they are able to go "Live", "InstaStory" where they posted clothings that are new and even "IGTV" where they feature try on hauls where customer are able to ask questions and they will be able to answer.

The Editor's Market knows that it is important to use social media to reach out to their customers to ensure constant engagement! So, businesses now realised how pivotal social media marketing is as it increases their brand exposure, broadens customer reach as well as increases value to their customers.
Tell me, what other social media marketing platforms do you think The Editor's Market can adopt? Are they really effective in helping businesses grow?
Feel free to let me know in the comments section below! Till then, stay tuned for my next post!
